St Patrick's Week

Well what an amazing week we had around St. Patrick's Day. We were performing in many different locations, the main one being the St. Patrick's Festival Banquet at the Hyatt Hotel, it is always such a fantastic night and we feel privileged to perform for many dignataries from Ireland and New Zealand, especially the Prime Minister.

On the day itself we performed at O'Hagen's Irish Pub in the Viaduct from 12nonn right through to 9pm and it was absolutely wonderful and we had dancers from the age of 6years right through to 23years and each one of them gave 100% to a very appreciative audience. We were fortunate to have dancing with us Des Bailey from Lord of the Dance who was magic to watch.

Our school has now re-opened its solo section which is quite exciting, and it is great to see some of our older dancers returning to the solos.

That's it for now

Christmas and 2008

Hi All,
Well we had an absolutely wonderful Christmas with all our family back from overseas. The traditional 'Ciaran' party was held for the five most wonderful ladies of the Irish Club - Kath Doran, Maggie Doran, Nell Delaney, Eileen Prendiville and Rose Coll and wow what a great night.

Anyway the Connolly dancers have been performing over the Christmas period and one of the highlights was an Irish/Indian wedding which went down like a treat.

With St. Patrick's week coming up, not too far away, we are now starting our practices of the amazing exhibitions that Ciaran has choreographed for the many bookings we have. If anyone is looking for dancers for that time it is wise to get in early as we get so booked up over that time.

So until next time, regards Clare

The Nationals and the Feis

Well it has been an extremely busy time getting ready for the N.Z. Nationals which were held in Wellington in September. Our teams weren't quite ready so results were not as great as we would have liked even though most of our teams were placed but no winners this year. However, our National Feisianna has just been held in Aukland on Labour Weekend and we were very very successful with our teams taking the trophies for all the over 13 teams in N.Z., as we were just that much more prepared. "Practice makes Perfect" eh!

It was great to see our dancers on Outrageous Fortune on Tuesday night that was the result of a lot of practice and teaching.

We are now involved in the welcoming of our Irish President, Mrs Mary McAleese who is arriving in the Hilton Hotel on Fri 2nd Nov. This is a great honour to be a part of this prestigious visit.

We have many exhibitions coming up over the next few weeks leading up to Christmas, including a wedding and some charity fundraisers.

Until the next time, cheers, Clare

Outrageous Fortune

Well the latest for the Connolly dancers is that they are currently teaching some actors Irish dancing to perform on the T.V. show Outrageous Fortune, this is a lot of fun and really amazed how easy they are picking it up. Some of our dancers will be included in the show as extras so this is exciting for the little ones. We still have a group performing every Sunday night at the Dogs Bollix at 7pm and 7.30. The Connolly Dancers have been performing in the Dogs Bollix for the past 12 years, so if you want to see some good performances, come along on Sunday nights to watch them.

I am currently holidaying in Galway, Ireland with Jim and we are staying with our daughter, Roisin, here. Our other two daughters, Bernadette and Siobhan and son Ciaran are also here and we are having a lovely time together. Galway is mad in the summer (not really good weather yet but they say it is coming!!!) and the Galway Races is coming up at the end of July and it will be 3 times as mad then. It is just great to turn on the tv and see all the Irish Gaelic games and Irish dancing, the accents are so lovely.

That's all for now.

Overseas Connollys

Just a update on the Connolly dancers overseas. Ciaran and Siobhan have finished their recent tour of Lord of the Dance in America. They visited Las Vegas on the way back to Ireland for 4 days and had an awesome time. They are now off for the summer then hope to go back on tour around Sept and rumour has it that they will be going to Egypt, wow!! Whilst in Ireland they will be joined by Martin where they hope to do a few gigs at weddings etc which has been organised for them by some friends. Always a bit of entertainment money at the end of the day eh!

Bernadette has her dancing school in Connemara, Co. Galway and last weekend she adjudicated in the Aran Islands and loved it. 19 of her pupils will be competing in a local Feis next weekend and hopes they will all do well, good luck, Bernadette.

Myself and Jim hope to join them all in Ireland next month for the summer where we will be staying in our daughter Roisin's new house in Galway. Many friends from N.Z. will be visiting us while we are there and there will always be a bed if anyone wants one, just come over to Galway - the city of entertainment and fun.

Until next time, Slán.

The Worlds

Attending the World Championships in Glasgow at Easter was something else. It was such a joy to be there to see our young lad Jordan do so well and also to see all the New Zealanders. It always amazes me that a competition of this level is not in the media more as so few people get to see this amazing artform at its highest level. However, I am sure glad that I had a chance to see it and have such a wonderful time.

It is wonderful to be able to brienng back so many ideas and to be able to pass it onto our young dancers here and that is what it is all about.

I look forward to seeing the fruits of this experience at our local competitions as we are certainly up there with all the other world competitiors.
